Mad Dog Auxiliary Lights Compared: Scout, Scout X, Delta, Alpha, Lycan and Rage
Mad Dog makes auxiliary LED lights for motorcycles, from compact flood lights for city riding to long-reach lights for dark highways and trails. All six models below use Nichia LEDs, are IP67 water and dust proof, and come with an 18-month warranty. The main differences are brightness, how far the beam reaches, and how the light is split between a long-reach spot beam and a wide flood beam.

Figures are as listed by Mad Dog on each product page.
Which one suits your riding?
- City and short night rides: the Scout throws a wide flood that lights up the road edges and makes you easier to see. The Scout X adds a spot beam for more reach.
- Highway touring: the Delta and Alpha put most of their light into the spot beam, reaching 250 m and 300 m.
- Long unlit roads and trails: the Rage has the longest reach of the range, 380 m.
- Switching beams on the move: the Lycan lets you turn the spot and flood beams on independently.
Wiring and switches
- Mad Dog Wire Harness: plug-and-play, for any auxiliary light up to 10 A / 100 W, with no cutting into the bike's stock wiring.
- Mad Dog Wire Harness PRO: for lights up to 15 A / 150 W, with an IP66 relay and waterproof connectors.
- Mad Dog Switch: backlit, with a dual mounting option.
- Mad Dog Switch PRO: IP67 waterproof, red backlight, handlebar or mirror mounting, up to 10 A.
Check that the total power of the lights you fit is within your harness's rating.
Riding with auxiliary lights
Bright spot beams can dazzle oncoming riders and drivers. Switch the spot beams off for oncoming traffic, and aim the lights at the road rather than into other road users' eyes.
